Artist Lecture Series
The Artist/Lecture Series at Kent State Tuscarawas offers five to seven events each academic year. All events are offered free of charge to students and the public. Throughout the year, these programs offer enrichment, education and entertainment, including some of the finest speakers and performers from the fields of art, music, theatre and the humanities.Guest lecturers address important and varied topics that include literature, social action, education and diversity.
Events begin at 7 p.m. with auditorium doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are required for some events, which are noted below.2012-2013 Artist/Lecture Schedule

Award-Winning Journalist Regina Brett to Speak at Kent State Tuscarawas
Award-winning journalist Regina Brett will speak at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on April 9 at 7 p.m. in Founders Hall auditorium. She will speak about her newest book, Be the Miracle: 50 Lessons for Making the Impossible Possible, a collection of inspirational essays in which she shares lessons that will help people make a difference in the world around them.
Sponsored by the Kent State Tuscarawas Artist/Lecture Series, the presentation is free and open to the public, however tickets are required and will be available beginning April 2 at the Founders Hall receptionist's office, which is open from Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets are limited to two per person and must be picked up in person.
Regina Brett is the voice readers and audiences turn to when they want inspiration for life.
She is a New York Times best-selling author whose popular book God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life's Little Detours has been published in 18 countries. Her presentations at seminars, colleges, churches, commencements, conferences and fundraisers inspire audiences to take the next right step, create the life of their dreams, make peace with the past, say yes to life and be the miracle they want to see in the world.
As a two-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Commentary, Brett has gained the attention and hearts of readers throughout the country. As a columnist for The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Ohio's largest newspaper and the 16th largest newspaper in the country - her columns are posted on refrigerators, tucked into wallets, quoted from pulpits, clipped, tweeted, snail-mailed and emailed around the world.
She also hosts the Regina Brett Show, a live call-in radio show weekly on NPR affiliate WKSU 98.7 FM, which is also podcast on-demand at www.wksu.org. Brett has also been a guest on Oprah & Friends Radio.
Brett's most popular column, 50 Life Lessons, is about faith and family, about the lessons cancer taught her and the ones she learned growing up in a family of 11 children and as a single parent for 18 years. That column became a viral Internet sensation, attracting international attention and leading to the publication of God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life's Little Detours, in 18 countries, including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Russia, Sweden, Brazil, Poland, Portugal Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
Brett has a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from John Carroll University and a journalism degree from Kent State University.
Matt Corey Band to Perform Free Concert
Well-known saxophonist Matt Corey and his band will perform at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
Sponsored by the Kent State Tuscarawas Artist/Lecture Series and the Student Activities Council, the Matt Corey Band concert is free and open to the public, however tickets are required and will be available beginning March 6 at the Performing Arts Center Box Office, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are limited to four per person and must be picked up in person. A Canton native, Corey brings a new concept to live entertainment by mixing a live band with a party DJ, bringing current top 40 and classic throwback dance hits to life. His performances feature music from Michael Jackson, Usher, Rhianna, Gotye, Cee Lo Green, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton and Lil Wayne, to name a few.
In addition to Corey, the Matt Corey Band is comprised of Jason Feathers, Hammond B-3, Organ; Elec Simon, percussion; Chase Williams, drums; Matt Vick, bass; DJ K.O.B., turntables; and Drew Pinchotti, guitar.
Corey has been the opening act for B.o.B., Joe Walsh of the Eagles, Mike Posner, Far East Movement, New Boyz, Mario, O.A.R., Dave Matthews Band, Lil Wayne, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Average White Band and Third Eye Blind. He has also been featured in performances at The Mirage in Las Vegas, The Queen's Theatre in London, England, Walt Disney World's Epcot Center, The Rock Boat XII, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, West Point Military Academy, 311 Caribbean Cruise, NYC's Bitterend, LA's Viper Room and hundreds of colleges nationwide.
Winner of the "Best Male Solo Artist" for 2011 and 2012 by the Association for the Promotion of Campus of Activities, Corey was also nominated for "New Rising Star of 2011" and "Best Music Act of 2012" by Campus Activities Magazine. He also has been on NBC's America's Got Talent.
A graduate of Youngstown State University, Corey has a bachelor's degree in jazz performance and music education.
