AVENUE Q, a smash-hit Broadway musical, has been added to the performance schedule of the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas. The three-time Tony Award winning show will be held March 29, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the box office, by phone 330-308-6400 or online at www.tusc.kent.edu/pac. AVENUE Q is about real life in New York City, as told by a cast of people and puppets through a hilariously irreverent book and score. It tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate who moves to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. The only apartment he can afford is way out on Avenue Q, where everyone's looking for the same things he is: a decent job, a stable relationship and a purpose. Eventually, Princeton learns to embrace the ups and downs of city life and realizes that the real world isn't so bad after all!
"When AVENUE Q was offered to us, we thought it was a great opportunity to add another diverse element to our inaugural season which already features 22 outstanding events," said Dr. Gregg Andrews, dean and chief administrative officer of Kent State Tuscarawas. "It is a hilarious musical specifically geared for an adult audience."
The New York Times hailed AVENUE Q as "a breakthrough musical of a very different stripe. Savvy, sassy and delicious!" and Entertainment Weekly claimed it was "one of the funniest shows you're ever likely to see!"
According to Mike Morelli, general manager of the Performing Arts Center, "In the planning of the Performing Arts Center, we believed our great location would lend itself to pickup dates for traveling shows who were moving across the region. AVENUE Q is our first such show and we're looking forward to more opportunities."
AVENUE Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx; and is directed by Jason Moore; puppet design by Rick Lyon, orchestrations by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley and sound design by Lew Mead; associate director is Evan Ensign and music supervisor is Andrew Graham.
AVENUE Q is produced by Work Light Productions.
