Career Exploration: Information and Library Professions - Oct. 1 & 3

Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) will host its annual careers night in Kent on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and in Columbus on Thursday, Oct. 3

SLIS Career Exploration"Career Exploration: Information and Library Professions" in Kent will take place in the Kent Student Center Ballroom from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 1. The Columbus event will be held at the SLIS location in the State Library of Ohio from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 3.

The program is free and open to anyone interested in a career in libraries or other information agencies, including museums and other cultural institutions, government offices, corporations and numerous other organizations. Students interested in the fields of user experience design, health informatics and knowledge management also are encouraged to attend.

From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., participants can attend one of two panel presentations – one panel features current students and alumni of the school’s two degree programs, the Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM); the other panel features information professionals who will offer advice and tips on how to get into the field and find a job.

From 6:30 to 8 p.m. participants can enjoy light refreshments as they browse the exhibits to explore the job market, internships and practicum opportunities, and professional organizations. More than 45 institutions and companies have committed to the event in Kent, and nearly 20 will be available in Columbus. Current students in the M.L.I.S. or M.S. programs can also take advantage of this opportunity to meet face-to-face with faculty and advisors.
