Student Groups' "Hearty Competition" Benefits American Heart Association

Posted Feb. 20, 2014

Kent State University at Ashtabula’s 2nd Annual “Hearty Competition” is underway.  Through February 28th student organizations will raise money for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk by selling $1 paper hearts to fellow students, family, and members of the community.

Angella Bradley, Coordinator of Student Life, reports the number of student groups involved this year more than doubled from last year, growing from 6 to 14. Student groups involved include the Association of Information Technology Professionals, English Society, Human Services Technology Club, Justice Club, Kent State Ashtabula Student Ambassadors, Physical Therapist Assistant Technology Club, Psychology Club, Sociology Club, Student Nurses Association, Student Occupational Therapy Association, Student Veterans Association, and Volleyball Club. “I’m very excited to see who this year’s winner will be,” Bradley said.

Liz Driscoll, Club Advisor to the Student Ambassadors, says “the ‘Hearty Competition’ is a great way for KSUA students to get involved in the Ashtabula County Heart Walk and to show their support for such an important cause.  I am always surprised by the support and generosity shown by our students.  Regardless of the endeavor, they are always willing to go above and beyond.”

The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk raises funds and awareness to support outreach to at-risk populations, help improve standards for heart patient care, and advocate for health related legislation.
