Living with Grief: Caring for Veterans on Thursday, April 18

Kent State University at Stark will join more than 2,000 organizations across the United States and Canada as a host of the 20th annual Living with Grief program. Sponsored by the Hospice Foundation of America, Living with Grief: Improving Care for Veterans Facing Illness and Death will take place from noon – 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 in the Main Hall Auditorium, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. The program is free of charge and open to the public. Registration begins at 11:30 p.m.
Living with Grief: Improving Care for Veterans Facing Illness and Death is moderated by Frank Sesno, director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University, and will be shown via DVD. The program will feature a panel of experts who will assist end-of-life care provider organizations and health and human service professionals in enhancing their sensitivities and understanding of veterans and to provide professionals with new interventions to better serve dying veterans and their families. The program is intended for both professionals and laypeople. Local sponsors include Canton Regional Area Health Education Center (CRAHEC) and Mercy Medical Center Hospice.
Three continuing education credits will be granted by the Hospice Foundation of America for a wide range of professions at an online processing fee of $35. A professional board license number is required for online credits.
Program topics include: military culture; post-traumatic stress disorder; veterans cohorts; end-of-life care of veterans; sensitivities and interventions; systems of care for veterans; and lessons learned and insights.
