Guys with Guitars Featured Performers for Dinner and a ShowPosted Sep. 4, 2013
Kicking off the new Cabaret Series at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas will be Guys with Guitars at 8 p.m on Sept. 14. The show will be performed with the audience seated onstage. A three-course meal is included in the $40 ticket and seating is limited to 120.
The Guys with Guitars is comprised of Doug Wood, a progressive instrumental guitarist; Ben Lapps, an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist; and Darren Frate on bass guitar. Each of these outstanding guitarists has their own established and accomplished solo careers, but are coming together for this concert.
Wood was awarded the 2013 Community Partnership for Arts and Culture Artist in Residence grant for the northeast shores of Cleveland. His song "Cat Dance" was featured during the Late Night Show with David Letterman. He has toured with Eclectica, featuring five-time Grammy winning drummer, Roy "Futureman" Wooten and electric violinist Tracy Silverman.
Lapps is a 19-year-old musician who has released three albums and performed hundreds of concerts, gaining a great deal of international attention as a fingerstyle guitarist.
Frate is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston Mass. He has toured with Gary Lewis and the Playboys, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Martha Reeves, Tommy Roe and Lesley Gore, among others.
Tickets for Guys with Guitars can be purchased now at the Performing Arts Center box office, online at www.tusc.kent.edu/pac or by calling 330-308-6400. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
